Updated: April 7, 2026
Not every smart collar actually monitors your dog’s health. We compared only the collars that do — on temperature, activity, sleep and heart rate. Pure health, no GPS distractions.
Bottom line: There are two worlds in dog health monitoring. PetPace 3.0 is the clinical standard: 8+ patented sensors, used by vets, but you pay EUR 444+ per year. Camicoo is the affordable alternative: temperature, activity, sleep and anti-bark detection for EUR 126 per year. Invoxia Biotracker wins if you refuse to pay monthly: EUR 99 one-time, no subscription.
Surprising find: Tractive DOG 6 Premium added heart rate and bark detection to their GPS tracker since 2025. For EUR 225/year you get GPS + basic health in one. But the health data is less in-depth than the specialists.

Take the Free QuizWhat Does a Dog Health Monitor Measure?
A health monitor collar is not a GPS tracker that happens to have a step counter. It is a medically oriented device that continuously measures your dog’s vital functions. But not every collar measures the same things.
Temperature (skin): Measures your dog’s skin temperature via a contact sensor. Deviates 1-2 degrees from core temperature, but trends are reliable. Camicoo, PetPace and SATELLAI measure this. Invoxia, Maven and Tractive do not.
Activity patterns: All 6 collars measure this via an IMU sensor (accelerometer + gyroscope). Steps, running time, calorie burn. The base layer of health monitoring — deviations signal lethargy or pain.
Sleep analysis: All 6 collars track sleep. Deep sleep vs. light sleep vs. restlessness. Changed sleep patterns are one of the earliest signs of illness or stress in dogs.
Heart rate (HRV): PetPace, SATELLAI, Maven and Tractive Premium measure heart rate. Invoxia measures this via radar (contactless). Camicoo does not measure direct heart rate. PPG sensors are more accurate than radar during movement.
Respiration: Only PetPace and Invoxia measure respiratory rate. PetPace via piezoelectric sensors, Invoxia via radar. Crucial for detecting heart and lung problems in senior dogs.
Behavioral analysis: Camicoo is unique with AI bark detection (dual-sensor: microphone + IMU) and anxiety screening. Tractive Premium detects barking but does not correct it. Behavioral data correlates with pain and anxiety.

We assessed all 6 collars on four criteria: (1) health features and sensor accuracy, (2) EU availability and privacy compliance, (3) battery life under normal use, and (4) total cost of ownership over 2 years. Specifications sourced from official product pages as of April 7, 2026. Camicoo is our own product — we acknowledge this openly and award wins to competitors where the data supports it. PetPace claims are supported by published clinical studies. Maven specifications based on the US market.
The Health Monitor Spectrum: Three Levels
The dog health monitoring market is not a spectrum — it is three islands with water in between.
Level 1: Consumer (EUR 99-152/year). Camicoo, Invoxia and SATELLAI. Affordable devices that measure your dog’s basic vital functions. Good enough for preventive screening and early detection. No clinical claims, but daily insights. Most dog owners are well served here.
Level 2: Prosumer (EUR 225/year). Tractive Premium. A GPS tracker that adds health data. Jack of all trades, master of none. Suitable when GPS is your primary need and you want health data as a bonus.
Level 3: Clinical (EUR 444+/year). PetPace 3.0. The only device with peer-reviewed clinical studies. Vet dashboard for professional monitoring. Justified for chronic conditions, post-operative monitoring or senior dogs with known risk factors.
The gap in the market: there is no health monitor that also manages barking behavior. PetPace costs EUR 300 and does no anti-bark. Camicoo does both for EUR 59.95. The only product at the Consumer level that combines health and behavior management.
Total Cost of Ownership (2 Years)
| Collar | Device | Per month | Year 1 | Year 2 | 2-Year Total |

| PetPace 3.0 | EUR 300 | EUR 12-21 | EUR 444+ | EUR 144+ | EUR 588+ |
Invoxia wins on absolute cost. But Invoxia does not measure temperature and has no anti-bark. Camicoo offers the best value for combined health monitoring and behavior management: EUR 192 over 2 years.

How Early Does a Smart Collar Detect Illness?
This is the core question every dog owner asks. The honest answer: a smart collar does not detect illness. It detects deviations.
A healthy dog has stable patterns: temperature, activity level, sleep rhythm, heart rate. When these patterns deviate — subtly, over days — that can be an early signal. PetPace claims detection 2-3 days before visible symptoms, supported by clinical studies at veterinary clinics.
But a deviation is not automatically illness. It can be stress, a change in weather, a new environment. That is why baseline building is crucial: during the first 2-4 weeks the collar learns what is normal for your dog. After that, deviations become meaningful.
What no collar can do: make a diagnosis, measure blood values, assess internal organs. A health monitor is a screening tool, not a replacement for the vet. The best scenario: the collar signals a deviation, you go to the vet, and the problem is treated early.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a smart collar measure my dog’s heart rate? +
Yes. PetPace 3.0, SATELLAI Collar Go and Maven measure heart rate continuously via PPG or radar sensors. Camicoo measures activity patterns and temperature, but not direct heart rate. Invoxia Biotracker uses radar for respiration and heart rate.
What is a normal heart rate for a dog? +
Normal heart rate varies by size: large dogs 60-100 beats per minute, medium dogs 80-120, small dogs 100-140. Puppies can have up to 220 beats per minute. A smart collar helps you learn your dog’s baseline.
How do I know if my dog is getting sick? +
Early signs include: changed eating pattern, reduced activity, elevated temperature, disrupted sleep rhythm or changed breathing pattern. A health monitor collar detects deviations in these patterns days before visible symptoms appear.
What is the difference between a GPS tracker and a health monitor for dogs? +
A GPS tracker follows your dog’s location via satellite. A health monitor measures vital functions such as temperature, activity, sleep and sometimes heart rate or respiration. Some collars (SATELLAI, Tractive Premium) combine both, but the sensor technology differs fundamentally.
Is Tractive also a health monitor? +
Tractive DOG 6 is primarily a GPS tracker. The Premium subscription (EUR 13/mo) does add health monitoring: activity tracking, sleep analysis, heart rate and bark detection. The health data is less in-depth than PetPace or Camicoo.
Which health monitor works without a subscription? +
Invoxia Biotracker offers health monitoring without monthly costs for EUR 99. All other health monitor collars require a subscription: Camicoo EUR 5.49/mo (Waker), SATELLAI EUR 6/mo, PetPace EUR 12-21/mo.
Can a smart collar predict illness? +
Smart collars do not predict a diagnosis, but detect deviations in vital patterns. PetPace claims detection 2-3 days before visible symptoms. Camicoo signals temperature deviations and behavioral changes. It is a screening tool, not a replacement for the vet.
Which health monitor collar is the cheapest? +
Invoxia Biotracker for EUR 99 without subscription (cheapest in absolute terms). Camicoo for EUR 59.95 + EUR 5.49/month on Waker pricing (EUR 126 first year, cheapest with subscription). PetPace for EUR 300 + EUR 12-21/month (EUR 444+ first year).
How accurate are health monitor collars? +
PetPace publishes 20+ clinical studies with high correlation for heart rate and respiration. Activity and sleep tracking is reliable across all brands (IMU sensors). Temperature sensors measure skin temperature, not core temperature — a difference of 1-2 degrees. Trends are more reliable than absolute values.
Is a health monitor suitable for every dog? +
Most health monitors work for dogs from 4-5 kg. PetPace has models for cats and small dogs. SATELLAI and Camicoo work for dogs from 4 kg. Long-haired and thick-coated dogs can affect temperature sensors — check the specifications per brand.
